Matt was born and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He started working on the family farm starting at age 12 and continued until his early 30s.
Shortly thereafter, Matt relocated to California to begin his schooling, he received his drug and alcohol counseling certificate and moved on to do a Bachelors in Psychology from Vanguard University and then onto a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Chapman University.
After returning to Canada, Matt was looking for a position in counseling in a treatment center and was drawn to Cedars by the environment, and the strong leadership and involvement of the clinical team. Matt states, “I love the group process. It can be a powerful tool and in most settings you do not get the opportunity to conduct groups.” Matt also brings a strong work ethic instilled in him by his family and working on the farm.
Matt is furthering his professional goals by studying SFBT and getting accredited as an online counselor. When he’s not at work, Matt enjoys travelling, skiing, and golfing.
